Preparing for Sunday Liturgy

Do you remember last Sunday's Gospel?
What was it about?  Can you even remember which Gospel it was from?  If not, you are not alone.  Most Catholics forget the Gospel even before the Mass is over.  Why?  First, because we don't read the Gospel in advance.  Second, we don't study the Gospel to see what the great spiritual masters have said about it.  So if you don't read, remember, or study the Gospel, how can it possibly shape your life?

Below are listed three ways of studying the Gospel and reading reflections from the great spiritual masters. We encourage you to read and study the weekly Sunday Gospel so that your life can be transformed.

Two Guys and a Gospel

Tune into a series of weekly podcasts from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee with Fr. Phillip Bogacki, Pastor of Christ King Parish, Wauwatosa and St. Bernard Parish, Wauwatosa, and Fr. Ricardo Martín, Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Racine and Vice-Chancellor for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, to help you start thinking about this Sunday’s Gospel reading.

The Sunday Website of St. Louis University

St. Louis University provides  a wide variety of entry points for reflecting on the Sunday Liturgy.  Praying Toward Sunday offers prayers and reflections to help enter into the study of the Sunday readings. Spirituality of the Readings provides several theological perspectives on the readings from well-known theologians and authors as well as reflection questions and a Poem to Sit With. Get to Know the Readings allows one to enter into a deeper study through a Historical Cultural Perspective, Thoughts from the Early Church, and Scripture In Depth.  St. Louis University also offers perspectives on the Music of Sunday's Mass and Intercessory Prayers.  Reflecting on the Sunday Scriptures in this way can have a great impact on hearing the Word proclaimed at Mass.
